“Walk United,” MLGW’s downtown walking activity to raise awareness and resources for United Way, took place last Saturday. MLGW employees, United Way staff, Youth United Way leadership program teens and local volunteers came together for a brisk walk along the Mississippi River to promote good health and physical activity in our community.

United Way wishes to thank Derrick Dones, MLGW coordinator, and Jerry Collins, MLGW President and CEO (and our 2015-16 United Way Campaign Chairman) for their leadership on this event and the MLGW drive for United Way. Dones, Collins, and United Way President / CEO Dr. Kenneth Robinson addressed the participants before the walk started, thanking walkers for their support of our community through helping United Way.

The three-mile walk proceeded from the MLGW Administrative Building at 220 South Main St. and continued alongside the scenic Mississippi River. A few ran or jogged the path, and despite the climbing temperatures the walkers finished the route. Many expressed it was a great way to get a short workout in before the day’s heat climbed too high.
