United Way of the Mid-South joins with the friends and family of Casel Jones in mourning his passing, which occurred Tuesday morning January 20th after a lengthy period of illness. Casel worked in United Way’s Labor Participation area for 30 years, and eventually became the department’s Director. He was 78 years old.
Casel was a champion for working with leaders in organized labor to support United Way and improve local education, financial stability and health. Labor unions in companies and organizations across the region have become stronger supporters of United Way through his efforts.
Casel’s work gave numerous unions and individual union members outlets for improving our community through charitable giving and projects helping people in need. His efforts enhanced labor union education classes and taught new members how our local nonprofit sector helps our common good. He was also dedicated to helping labor union food drives for the hungry and sharing how organized labor’s community work improves lives across our Mid-South area.
Services will be this Saturday, January 24 at Vollentine Baptist Church, 4177 New Allen Rd, Memphis TN. 38134. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am. Flowers may be sent to the church beginning Friday, January 23rd.
