Youth United Way provides insights and feedback to help fight youth crime

Speakers with the Memphis Shelby County Crime Commission spoke with Youth United Way teens last weekend

Saturday’s Youth United Way Leadership Program meeting featured guest speakers Michelle Fowlkes and Washina White from the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission. Fowlkes and White spoke with the teens about youth violence in Shelby County and received feedback on strategies to better address youth crime in our community.

Based on Shelby County’s track-record of strong public-private collaboration through Operation: Safe Community, the Department of Justice has chosen Memphis as one of six cities to participate in its Forum on Youth Violence by developing a Strategic Plan to Reduce Youth Violence.

Comments from Saturday’s discussion will be included in the upcoming Strategic Plan and will become a model for other cities across the country.
