Project Homeless Connect Memphis is seeking more volunteers for a massive one-day event on Thursday, February 14 at the Cook Convention Center. The project is sponsored by United Way of the Mid-South and helps unsheltered homeless people in Memphis and Shelby County.
The effort brings a large variety of resources and services to help people struggling with homelessness under one roof, providing one-on-one help in guiding people with needs to services that can make a difference. Dozens of nonprofit agencies, service providers and other organizations join together to break down the barriers that can make it more difficult to escape homelessness.
Volunteers must be 18 years old or older to participate and are needed to help from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. People who are homeless and seeking help and services are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and people who are at-risk of homelessness or formerly homeless but in need of services are welcomed from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Register to volunteer online here or call 901.527-1302.
Project Homeless Connect Memphis is sponsored by United Way of the Mid-South, the City of Memphis, Shelby County, FedEx, Baptist Operation Outreach, Buckman Laboratories, Methodist Healthcare and Holiday Ham. The project is organized by the Community Alliance for the Homeless, an element of the Mayor’s Action Plan to End Homelessness.
