Earlier this evening, United Way of the Mid-South announced SRVS (Shelby Residential and Vocational Services) is the chosen agency for this year’s G. Bradley Wanzer Award For Excellence during a presentation ceremony at AutoZone Park in downtown Memphis, TN.
SRVS is a United Way partner agency offering help and assistance to people with disabilities. SRVS provides comprehensive care through a supportive environment that strengthens families and communities with programs such as job training and placement, an occupational workshop, community participation, family support, residential living, a day activity center and more.
In the video above, United Way Board Chairman-Elect Martha Perine Beard (V.P. and Sr. Branch Executive for the Memphis Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis) announced the judges’ decision and presented SRVS with a stipend of $25,000 to assist the organization’s work for our community. SRVS Executive Director Jeffrie Bruton and SRVS Board Chairperson Anne Wesberry were present to accept. United Way of the Mid-South President Bryce Haugsdahl (standing to the right in the video) along with Anthony Hicks (Director of PR & Development for SRVS) and SRVS clients were also on hand for the presentation.
The announcement was made at home plate before the Memphis Redbirds vs. Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game for United Way Volunteer Salute Night. (Update: The Redbirds won, hooray!)
The G. Bradley Wanzer, Jr. Award For Excellence is focused on how a United Way of the Mid-South agency embraces the standards of:
2. Outcome measures
3. Collaborations in the Mid-South community
4. Partnership with United Way of the Mid-South
Each of these standards of practice was important to G. Bradley Wanzer, Jr. and represent different aspects of his work across our region. Wanzer passed away in 2005 and the award was created to honor his work and dedication.
