Verso Paper kicked off its latest fundraising drive in United Way’s boardroom last week with enthusiastic speakers and employees who want to improve local education, financial stability and health by supporting United Way.
Verso, a leading North American producer of coated papers, has offices in the same building as United Way of the Mid-South. Traveling to the kickoff was as easy as touching the “2” button on the elevator.
“It is so important in this day and age that we support United Way and our community as a whole,” said David Paterson, President & CEO of Verso Papers. “Now, more than ever, people are struggling and the economy is not responding. Through our generosity as individuals we provide assistance and help to keep communities together, to keep families together and to keep that sense of well-being in our society.”
Verso’s kickoff featured a great assortment of snacks and giveaways to raise awareness for this year’s campaign. From a company perspective, Paterson said Verso decided to make its campaign a little more interesting this year. Verso’s Memphis office has a history of high participation in previous campaigns, and the local office is working for great participation again this year.
“I encourage everyone to give,” Paterson said. “Do it because you want to, and because it’s the right thing to do.”
