Congress is considering tax law changes that may result in reduced giving to charities. The proposals under consideration would result in increased taxes on income that is donated to charities.
If these changes go into effect, donations to charities may be reduced and nonprofits will have to cut services to thousands of families and individuals who are in desperate need of help. As federal, state and local governments are all reducing funding to programs, it is critical that nonprofit charities be supported in our work to help people in need.
Next week, Brian Gallagher (President and CEO of United Way Worldwide) will speak to Congress about this issue of vital importance to the nonprofit community and our nation. You can learn more and make your concerns about possible changes known by visiting this page on the United Way Worldwide website, where you can send a message to the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.
