United Way Worldwide celebrates Day of Action and 125th anniversary of United Way movement with events in Washington, DC and New York City

Yesterday’s United Way Day of Action was a great success here in the Mid-South (see yesterday’s and this morning’s updates) and the story was similar for our friends at United Way Worldwide who celebrated the 125th anniversary of the United Way movement in Washington, DC and New York City.

In Washington, “United Way Team NFL,” a volunteer group of college-educated, civic-minded NFL players committed to recruit readers, tutors and mentors, worked with youth and lobbied congress on education issues.

In New York City, Thompson Reuters/Nasdaq filled Time Square with images of United Way volunteers and invitations to LIVE UNITED – to give, advocate or volunteer. Events in New York culminated with the lighting of the Empire State Building in blue, United Way’s signature color.
