Recruiting volunteers and increasing awareness of Free Tax Prep: Ashley Washington, United Way Community Impact Specialist, will be a guest on WBBP 1480 AM tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 to discuss our financial stability work with Free Tax Prep centers and the Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance.
As the end of the year approaches, it is important to recruit volunteers to help with our next wave of Free Tax Prep centers. No prior experience is necessary and training is available. If you do have experience preparing taxes, this could be a great opportunity to use your skills to help individuals and families with low to low-to-moderate incomes claim applicable tax credits to increase tax refunds. In some cases, a family can see a refund of nearly 20% of their annual income. This can mean catching up on bills, purchasing a more reliable car, or even making a downpayment on a home.
Getting the message out: In late October, Washington and United Way VP of Communications Dave Skorupa appeared on the Live At 9 program on WREG News Channel 3 to speak about the need for volunteers and the benefits of free tax filing, and gave an update on our ongoing fundraising work for more resources for United Way’s efforts to impact local education, financial stability and health.
