United Way participates with TVAC and local mayors during World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Last week, United Way of the Mid-South partnered with TVAC (Tennessee Vulnerable Adults Coalition) to help shed light on the abuse of seniors in our community during World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

A special World Elder Abuse Awareness Day event on June 15 at Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis featured City of Memphis Mayor A C Wharton and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell. United Way staff were present and provided an information booth to inform attendees about our work to improve health for seniors and adults with disabilities.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is an ongoing effort to give the issue a more visible profile and proclaim the community’s commitment to treating seniors with respect and dignity.

In an effort to educate seniors on available community resources a variety of local nonprofit agencies, organizations, and businesses provided information booths stocked with educational and informative materials.
