United Way in the news: FOX13 Good Morning Memphis program spotlights United Way’s free tax prep and filing work with EITCA and VITA

Yesterday, Yvonne Howard was interviewed for FOX13’s Good Morning Memphis program and shared information about the benefits of getting taxes filed with assistance from EITCA/VITA. Howard was interviewed by FOX13 anchorman Greg Coy.

Howard is a Senior Specialist with United Way’s Community Impact department who works with the Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance (EITCA) /Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program across our region.

United Way in the NewsHoward discussed the benefits of making sure tax filers used the Earned Income Tax Credit (if they qualify) and warned viewers to avoid predatory lenders disguised as tax business that charge high fees and use illegally-high interest rates for quick refunds.

Individuals and families with an annual income of $50,000 or less are likely to qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and have their taxes prepared and filed for FREE at EITCA and VITA sites.

Earlier today, Coy reminded FOX13 viewers that people searching for a safe place to find help with tax preparation and filing should use the United Way EITCA/VITA program.

Howard will be interviewed for the WYPL Library Channel program “Memphis Makers with Ally Luciano” later this month. The interview will air throughout March.
