From the Archive: United Way distributes over $117,000 to nonprofits in Tipton County


United Way network partners in Tipton County, TN will receive a total of more than $117,000 to support the work of improving education, financial stability and health

Health and human service nonprofits working to improve education, financial stability and health in Tipton County, TN will receive $117,690 as a result of decisions from United Way of the Mid-South allocations committees.

United Way of the Mid-South has several nonprofit agency partners working in Tipton County. Skip Sage (ITW Paslode) leads the Tipton County allocations committee and serves as a key United Way volunteer in several leadership positions.

Agencies serving people in Tipton County that will receive funding are:

– American Red Cross, Mid-South Chapter (provides immediate disaster response and preparedness)

– Boy Scouts of America, West TN Council (offers comprehensive youth development program, emphasizing personal growth)

– Children and Family Services (provides social/recreational services and programs to low income families)

– Exchange Club, Carl Perkins Center (helps families in dealing with and preventing child abuse)

– Girl Scouts Heart of the South (girls ages 5-17 enjoy fun, friendship, strength and courage)

-Meritan, Inc (services include foster care for children with special needs, in-home care, a senior center, employment assistance for older workers, information and referral and assistance for the blind and visually impaired)

– Search Dogs South (provides trained search dogs and handlers for lost and missing persons)

– Special Olympics, Tipton County (provides Special Olympics programming for nearly 350 Special Olympics athletes and their coaches)

– Tennessee Poison Center (provides an emergency hotline 1-800-222-1222 monitoring and following up on possible poisonings)

– Tipton County Adult Developmental Center (provides assistance for developmentally challenged adults, helping them to be self-sufficient)

– Tipton County Commission on Aging (enriches the quality of life for Tipton seniors)

– Tipton County Education Foundation (secures and provides financial and material resources to enhance existing educational programs)

– Tipton County Literacy Council (provides GED and literacy services in Tipton County)

– Transformations Autism Treatment Center (provides assistance for those facing autism)

– YMCA of Memphis and the Mid-South (helps emotionally troubled children and their families live successfully)

Funds distributed by United Way allocations committees come from people and organizations that contribute to United Way fundraising campaigns in Tipton County including City of Munford, Clayton Bank & Trust, ITW Paslode, Munford Elementary School and Tennessee Technology Center and others.
