January 27, 2012 is national Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) day. Locally, you can get your taxes prepared for FREE through the work of our Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance partnerships (learn more about this work here.)
Using the EITC is a financial boost for working people in a recovering economy. According to the IRS, using the EITC can put up to $5,751 into the pockets of eligible taxpayers.
However, taxpayers must file and claim the credit in order to receive it. That’s why United Way, the Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance volunteers are working together to provide numerous sites across the Mid-South where qualifying people can get FREE help with preparing and filing their taxes.
You can watch a video with more information here, and follow the national conversation about this awareness day on Twitter at #IRSEITCDay .
