Thousands without power in local storm aftermath, United Way partners offering help & information

United Way’s office is open today, but many homes in our neighborhood have been dramatically impacted by the weekend storm which left as many as 188,000 without power Saturday night. Read more about the storms here.

United Way partner agency, the American Red Cross, has opened a shelter at Orange Mound Community Center, 2572 Park Ave, Memphis, Tennessee 38114 for people who experienced severe storm damage and have homes that are now uninhabitable. The Red Cross recommends calling 901-636-2525 if you need transportation or have questions. A story about the American Red Cross shelter is available here.

For other storm-related needs, we recommend calling our partners at 2-1-1 (backup number 901.415.2790) during normal business hours. Please check in with elderly or other people in vulnerable situations in your neighborhood if possible. Thanks to your support of United Way, services like these are available during times of crisis. Thanks for giving to United Way throughout the year and helping our friends and neighbors during times of need.
