Youth United Way celebrates Shoebox Christmas with Orleans Elementary

Youth United Way students are delivering "Shoebox Christmas" to children at Orleans Elementary today.

Youth United Way Chairman Clifton Jordan shows his giving spirit with other student volunteers delivering gifts to Orleans Elementary today

Youth United Way students have given time and energy in donating and wrapping over 300 toys, school supplies, items, stuffed animals and other Christmas presents for this year’s Shoebox Christmas project.

Shoeboxes will be delivered and presented to students at Orleans Elementary today at 1:30 p.m. All Orleans Elementary students in grades prekindergarten through 5th grade will be presented a shoebox filled with Christmas items.

This is the first time the Shoebox Christmas project will be able to provide gifts to the entire student body. Orleans Elementary School is located at 1400 McMillan Street in the 38106 zip code. This zip code was recently listed as one of the 25 most dangerous neighborhoods in the nation for crime. Schools, government and local nonprofit organizations are working to reverse that statistic every day.

Youth United Way uses Shoebox Christmas to help children during the holiday season and spread the message of how important it is to stay in school and receive a good education.
