People go to Soulsville to learn about legendary STAX music and local history, but this weekend they can also visit to receive FREE tax preparation and filing help thanks to United Way of the Mid-South’s Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance (EITCA) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).
VITA is opening a free tax preparation site in the Soulsville Towne Center at 915 East McLemore on Saturday, February 2nd. Free tax preparation help will be available from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. that day.
The mobile EITCA / VITA tax preparation site will set up at Soulsville from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on:
- Tuesday, February 5
- Tuesday, February 12
- Saturday, February 23
- Wednesday, February 27
- Thursday, February 28
Walk-ins are welcome each day.
EITCA works to see more qualifying people utilize the Earned Income Tax Credit so more tax refund dollars will come to people in the Mid-South, helping boost our local economy. VITA provides free tax services that help residents reduce the need to choose higher fee options like quick check cashers and assorted title loan businesses. Tax refunds from filing with VITA can be used to pay bills, fix a vehicle to use for work transportation and in some cases, even be used as a down payment for a home.
Bank On Memphis is also marking its official re-launch on Saturday at Soulsville as the VITA site opens. Bank On Memphis is a network of local banks, credit unions and public service organizations interested in helping people manage their money and provide financial tools to be more successful.
Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir and Memphis Mayor A C Wharton will officially proclaim the opening of the tax site and next phase of Bank On Memphis at the Soulsville Towne Center lobby.
