NEWS ADVISORY — MEMPHIS — SATURDAY
COHEN TO SPEAK ABOUT EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT PROGRAM AT SOUTHLAND MALL
Memphis Congressman to Highlight Benefits of IRS Program at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Site
MEMPHIS, TN. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) will discuss the benefits of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on March 26 at 11 a.m. at the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site at Southland Mall.
The EITC is a tax benefit for low-income working families. The EITC is a “refundable” credit, which means a family can benefit even if no federal tax is owed. If a family does owe income tax, the EITC will reduce the amount. If the family’s credit is more than the tax they owe, the IRS will send a check for the remaining amount. Families that are eligible for the EITC that have already filed their taxes can re-file to take advantage of the credit. Click here to learn more about the program.
