A new poster from United Way of the Mid-South puts a spotlight on how donations to United Way and the organization’s network of nonprofit partners are working to recruite tutors and mentors to reverse academic failure and help children succeed.

The importance of students achieving acceptable reading skills by third grade and math skills by fifth grade cannot be overstated. Studies show that if problems exist at these benchmark moments, it is very important to provide help and assistance if we hope to see students graduate from high school. The percentage of students in the Mid-South area that have not reached the proper level of reading and math skills at these benchmark moments is a matter of concern for our entire community. The need for tutors and mentors to help local students is growing every day.

The poster is available as an Adobe Acrobat PDF document, and can be printed on 11″ x 17″ paper. To download a copy of the poster, simply click on the image at the top right-hand corner of this story.
