National annual “Giving Tuesday” effort launches November 27

We want you to have a happy Thanksgiving this Thursday…
You’re looking forward to (or dreading) Black Friday…
Some of you will go online for Cyber Monday next week…

Now you can be involved in helping launch Giving Tuesday!

“Giving Tuesday,” an effort to encourage giving and supporting charities on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, launches on November 27 this year.

November has always been a month when our nation gives thanks for the blessings we receive. All too often, however, right after Thanksgiving we can lose sight of the season when the “commercial” aspects can distract us from the true meanings of the holidays.

This year, we encourage you to be a part of a new November tradition that is all about “giving back” and embracing the ideal of “it is better to give than to receive.”

Tuesday of next week (November 27th) is the day when people and families across the nation will participate in acts of kindness in their community and make a contribution to a favorite charitable cause. It is also a day when many businesses are coming together to “pay it forward” through philanthropic giving.

It’s a very simple idea – this year, find a way for your family, your company or your organization to work together and give back to our community on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Share how you are making a difference using #GivingTuesday in your posts on Facebook and Twitter when communicating with your social media connections.

You can also make a gift to United Way of the Mid-South and make a decision to serve as a volunteer for our Mid-South community in 2013 during Giving Tuesday.

We hope you and your family will be a part of this *first* Giving Tuesday and make it a holiday tradition for years to come.
