United Way’s friends at Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division helped raise awareness while getting fit during the “Walk United” event in downtown Memphis recently.
MLGW employees and United Way of the Mid-South staff and volunteers wore bright yellow “Walk United” t-shirts during a walking trek across downtown Memphis. “Walk United” was held at the Mud Island River Park, which co-sponsored the event with the Memphis Riverfront Development Corporation. The walking tour helps bring attention to MLGW’s United Way campaign, and the work to improve education, financial stability and health for people across our Mid-South area.
Jerry R. Collins, Jr., President and CEO of MLGW helped lead the march with United Way President, Bryce Haugsdahl. Collins is a member of the United Way Board of Directors and is a former United Way General Campaign Chairman.
Allena Hutcheson, a longtime United Way volunteer champion and advocate who works for MLGW in Construction, Water Matrix SSC Manager’s Office, provided these photos below (click on any photo to view it in a larger size) which were taken by Dan Hope, Senior Communications Specialist for MLGW.
Earlier in June, MLGW coordinated an annual United Way of the Mid-South Golf Scramble at Glen Eagle public course in Millington, TN. The event featured a hole-in-one, a longest drive and a longest putt competition. This year’s scramble had 36 teams in two flights to make it the most successful MLGW golf event for United Way yet.
Our thanks to all the men and women at Memphis Light Gas & Water Division for their support of United Way’s work for the common good all through the year!
