Rescheduled: MLGW basketball tournament helps United Way, November 10-11

MLGW’s fourth Annual Basketball Tournament has been rescheduled for Saturday and Sunday, November 10th and 11th at Penny Hardaway’s Fast Break Court in the Methodist University Gym, 1287 Linden Avenue in Memphis, TN.

The tournament runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on November 10th and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on November 11th. Admission is $1.00, children 12 and under are admitted for free. All proceeds benefit the work of United Way of the Mid-South.

The basketball teams competing in the tournament are composed of MLGW meter readers, MLGW overhead electric line employees, a team from Comcast, and Memphis Express (founded by University of Memphis Tigers and NBA basketball star Penny Hardaway) which has won the tournament the last two years, and some players from teams overseas.

The tournament is being organized for the fourth year by MLGW’s Kevin Watkins, a Work Process Alignment employee who also serves on MLGW’s United Way campaign steering committee.

Memphis Light, Gas and Water employees are consistently among the highest levels of per capita giving to United Way, and 100% of all MLGW contributions come from employee donations. In 2011, MLGW’s United Way campaign raised over $635,000 for our community. MLGW President & CEO Jerry Collins also serves a volunteer member of United Way of the Mid-South’s Board of Directors.
