Mid-South Rocket Society and Wooddale High School launch rockets honoring start of United Way campaign (Sept. 16) and Memphis Airshow (Sept. 17-18)

The Mid-South Rocket Society and Wooddale High School ‘s Rocket Team launched rockets to salute the start of United Way’s fundraising campaign and the upcoming Memphis Airshow on Saturday, September 10 at Shelby Farms.

General Campaign Chairman John Crowe addressed the crowd and led the countdown as Gary Cole, Chairman of the Mid-South Rocket Society launched a huge 7.5 ft. tall rocket to symbolically celebrate the upcoming “launch” of United Way’s fundraising drive. The celebratory rocket was emblazoned with a United Way logo. Even with some light winds, the rocket launches were very successful for the Wooddale Rocket Team and the Mid-South Rocket Society.

Below, you can hear Crowe’s comments before the launch (wind noise interferes with some of the audio).

You can read more about the activity in our post earlier this week. Additional photos from the event will be made available next week.
