United Way volunteer speaker Mildred Richard always shares a powerful story when she talks to groups of people in the Mid-South about her life and the need to support our network of care. During our 2010 fundraising campaign, Richard was one of the most requested speakers at organizations across the community as news of her story spread across our region.
The Commercial Appeal columnist Wendi C. Thomas featured Richard’s story with readers on Wednesday, November 23 – the day before Thanksgiving. The timing could not have been more appropriate, as Richards’ story with United Way partner agency Friends For Life demonstrates the power of keeping a positive attitude and focusing on blessings rather than tragedy during even the most trying of circumstances.
