IS A SOCIETY WITH A WORLDWIDE REACH In 1984, generous donors to United Way Worldwide created the Tocqueville Society. The Society recognizes local philanthropic leaders and volunteer champions in the United States and across the globe who have devoted time, talent, and funds to create long-lasting changes by tackling our communities’ most serious issues.

THE UNITED WAY TOCQUEVILLE SOCIETY AIMS TO: Change lives through philanthropic leadership focused on the building blocks for a better life: a quality education that leads to a stable job; financial stability that can support a family through retirement, and good health. Communicate the vital role of personal philanthropic action in creating long-lasting changes. Strengthen local United Way leadership by building a network of like-minded leaders across the globe.

OUR MID-SOUTH TOCQUEVILLE SOCIETY In 1984-85, seventeen local philanthropists banded together to support United Way of the Mid-South at the highest levels of giving by creating the United Way of the Mid-South Tocqueville Society. Each member contributed $10,000 or more to impact the challenges facing our region. The men and women who have joined the Society over the years and their demonstrations of support have helped improve education, financial stability and health for countless thousands of people across the Mid-South.

THE TOCQUEVILLE AWARD The Tocqueville Award is the single highest honor United Way of the Mid-South can bestow on a local volunteer. Award honorees have impacted the region with the highest levels of philanthropy and support of United Way.
