Flood or other natural disaster victims can get help filing special IRS claims at Free Tax Prep location in West Memphis, starting Saturday, Oct. 11

eitcaHave you been impacted by a flood or natural disaster? Do you need to file an amended return to claim disaster casualty loss?

Just last month, flooding caused major damage in many Mid-South homes and businesses due to unusually heavy rains and storms.

United Way of the Mid-South’s Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance (EITCA) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) has opened a location in West Memphis to help taxpayers in the Mid-South region determine if they qualify to file a disaster claim to receive federal or state funding.
The location for the VITA Tax Service is:

West Memphis Library
213 N. Avalon
West Memphis, AR 72301

The site will be open Saturday, October 11 from 11am to 2pm; Tuesday, October 14 and Thursday, October 16 from 11am to 3pm.

VITA volunteers will also be able to help taxpayers prepare and file claims. Taxpayers can get help to make sure they provide the necessary information to the IRS, and the office will also be open for walk-in customers needing assisting with claims. Self employed and small business owners are also encouraged to get help with what information is needed to file a claim.

There will also be assistance for providing address changes to the IRS. This helps ensure refunds sent by mail are delivered to the correct address.

Services are provided free of charge, as a service to the Mid-South community. For more information, please call United Way of the Mid-South at 901-433-4364.
