Financial stability volunteers wanted! Help people with low incomes see big tax refunds

VITA LogoUnited Way of the Mid-South is collaborating with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in hopes to recruit volunteers for training and certification by the IRS.

When certified, they will be able to participate in United Way’s Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance network with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Twenty-two VITA sites will be open for the 2013-14 tax season and volunteers will be helping low income individuals and families claim the Earned Income Tax Credit.  families who earned a yearly income of $51,000 or less may qualify for the Credit.

Volunteers do not need any previous tax preparation experience, but must be willing to gain a skill, assist in preparing taxes and ensure that taxpayers are receiving the appropriate earned income tax credit.

If you would like to volunteer or get additional information, please call United Way Community Impact Specialist Ashley Washington at 901.433.4331 or e-mail ashley.washington@uwmidsouth.org
