Making sure students perform well on the TCAP examination is an important part of local education efforts, and a special presentation later this month focuses on the Language Arts section of the test.

United Way of the Mid-South, along with Literacy Mid-South, Memphis City Schools and Urban Youth Initiative presents an Advanced Tutor Training Brown Bag Lunch Series with guest speaker Suzanne Morris. Morris will share strategies for helping elementary students tackle the Language Arts portion of the TCAP.

Morris is an 8th grade teacher at Memphis Academy of Health Sciences Middle School and will speak on “Tackling the TCAP: Middle School Language Arts” on Friday, Feb. 15 from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. The session includes lunch and networking, followed by a presentation.

Morris has a passion for reading and enjoys working with middle-school aged children. She holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and is currently working on a Special Education endorsement at Christian Brothers University.

The event will be held at the Memphis City Schools Teaching and Learning Academy in the Multipurpose Room at 2485 Union Ave. Attendees are advised to park on the south side of the lot facing the entrance. The Multipurpose Room will be the first door on the left, past the entrance.
