CFC victory celebration honors Memphians as ‘generous top givers’

CAPT Doug McGowan announces the grand total of the CFC campaign: $1,725,867

United Way and the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) held a victory celebration at the Holiday Inn hotel in the University of Memphis yesterday, which saluted Memphis for having some of the most generous federal employees in the nation.

The Combined Federal Campaign is a charitable fundraising drive which raises support from federal employees. Military and civilian personnel participate in donating to local, national and international charities through the effort.

“When it comes to supporting charity, Memphis is one of the most generous cities in the country,” said Capt. Doug McGowan, Commanding Officer, Naval Support Activity Mid-South. “Federal employees are doing their part through their support of CFC.”

McGowan had a lot to share with the crowd about Memphis’ accomplishments, including the news that this year’s CFC fundraising campaign raised $1,725,867! An impressive 70% of that was raised through the gifts of Eagle Club members who give $500 or more to the drive in a single year. This year’s CFC campaign benefited from the generosity of over 1,500 Eagle Club givers who contributed over $1,200,000.

Haugsdahl also honored long-time CFC loaned executive George Edwards, whose “lifetime of commitment to the CFC” and United Way has really made a difference.
