United Way awarded the Binghampton Development Corporation with the highest honor it can give to a partner agency last week with the presentation of the prestigious United Way of the Mid-South G. Bradley Wanzer, Jr. Award for Excellence during the Campaign Celebration and Annual Meeting luncheon at The Peabody with over 600 guests.
Binghampton Development Corporation was honored for their efforts to address the severe poverty and lack of economic assets in the Binghampton neighborhood, empowering citizens through a “bottom up” community building program. The agency was recognized for creating meaningful results and for performing its work with a high standard of excellence.
The G. Bradley Wanzer Jr. Award For Excellence focuses on four standards of exemplary performance: accountability, outcome measures, Mid-South community collaborations and the agency’s partnership with United Way. Robert Montague, Executive Director of the Binghampton Development Corporation was given a $25,000 stipend for the Corporation to use in their work to improve lives and make the Mid-South an even better place to live.
“Binghampton Development Corporation is making a difference, both in the neighborhood they serve and in the individual lives of people they empower every day. They are a very worthy recipient of the Award, and we could not be happier for this year’s honoree and their faith-motivated service to our Mid-South area,” said Dave Skorupa, Vice President of Communications for United Way of the Mid-South.
The Award honors Brad Wanzer’s 31-year career at United Way of the Mid-South and his legacy of caring. After Wanzer’s unexpected passing in 2005, United Way created the Award to honor his memory and commitment to supporting a network of strong United Way partner agencies. It is the highest honor an agency in United Way’s partner network can receive, recognizing the highest standards of service to our local community.
