(May, 2007) Several United Way of the Mid-South staff members were honored for giving over 30 years of service to the United Way system at United Way of America's national meeting in Pittsburgh, PA.
Audrey Brooks, Barbara Butler, Faye Carter, Janet Haas, Bryce Haugsdahl and Helen Lemons were each honored for their distinguished careers in the United Way system, each career spanning over 30 years of service. The employees were presented with awards honoring their service by Brian Gallagher, President of the United Way of America trade organization.
United Way of the Mid-South had more employees with 30-plus years of service to be honored than any other local United Way at the national meeting. Other United Way of the Mid-South staff members in attendance in Pittsburgh cheered as this special group of co-workers was recognized for their years of dedicated service, while staff who could not attend the ceremony in person watched the proceedings at their desks via an internet broadcast, and cheered their coworkers from the home office.
"We're very fortunate to have so many knowledgable professionals in our local United Way of the Mid-South. Having a strong organizational memory helps us make good decisions, which helps us stay efficient, and having dedicated staff like this keeps us focused on the overall mission of improving people's lives and building a stronger community," said Harry Shaw, President of United Way of the Mid-South. Shaw has also given over 30 years of service to the United Way system.
Bryce Haugsdahl, Senior Vice President, Fundraising for United Way of the Mid-South has brought in over one-half billion raising $513 million in his 35 years of service to United Way. During that time, Bryce worked for United Way of Yakima County, in Yakima Washington, Tulsa Area United Way, in Tulsa Oklahoma, United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast in Houston, Texas, and United Way of Orange County in California. Bryce came to United Way of the Mid-South, in Memphis, in 1984, and in his 23 years of service there has helped raise over $438 million. Bryce serves as a consultant and facilitator nationally to other United Way organizations across the country, conducting CAN-DO’s (Campaign Analyses Now-Developing Objectives), an intensive management and organizational analysis with local volunteers to assess trends and develop strategies for the future.
Faye Carter started her career with United Way of the Mid-South, in Memphis, in 1970 when the organization was known as Shelby United Neighbors. During her 37 year tenure, Faye has worked in data processing, later joining the United Way’s Campaign Department in 1985 and enjoying success which led her to be elevated to Campaign Manager and now Vice President, Fundraising. Faye is responsible for major firms throughout Memphis and the surrounding community giving to United Way.
Audrey Brooks began her career with United Way of the Mid-South on March 18, 1974 when the organization was known as United Way of Greater Memphis. Audrey began her career as Control Supervisor-Computer Operator. She directly supervised two data entry operators in the Data Processing department. In 1988 she was promoted to Finance Manager. In October 2005 she migrated to IS department as Information Services Manager.
Janet Haas began her career with United Way of the Mid-South in 1974 when the organization was known as United Way of Greater Memphis. From 1974 to 1978, Janet worked as secretary for the Campaign & Operations Department. In 1978, she moved to the Planning & Allocations Department becoming a Senior Secretary for Fund Distribution & Community Initiatives in 1988. From 1994 to 2004, Janet worked in the Fund Distribution department and today, she is Senior Secretary of Community Impact.
Barbara Butler began her career as a clerk typist in Budgeting at United Way of the Mid-South on November 1, 1971 when the organization was known as Shelby United Neighbors. In 1973, Barbara became secretary in the Campaign Department and through the years worked in the Marketing and Communications Department as well as Community Initiatives. From 1988 to the present, Barbara has worked as administrative Assistant in Administrator.
Helen Lemons began her career at United Way of the Mid-South when the organization was known as Shelby United Neighbors on March 1, 1971. When she first started with United Way, she served as a receptionist/clerk/typist for the Information and Referral department. Now, Helen does a great number of tasks for United Way including computer operator, financial coordinator and provides support to Loaned Executives and Sponsored Reps.
